Madrid District 21: Barajas |
| Madrid - Madrid Districts | |
Barajas has its origins in ancient villa of Barajas, still retains the layout of narrow streets and a curious square with porches and stone pillars. Apartments in Barajas vary widely in style, time and quality: village houses with white facade, two-storey block of the 60's, newly built houses and red brick buildings with four floors and small shops around. Madrid-Barajas Airport is the main international airport serving Madrid. It is the country's largest and busiest airport, the world's 11th busiest airport and Europe's fourth. It opened in 1928, and has grown to be one of the most important aviation centers of Europe. Located within the city limits of Madrid, just 9 km (5.6 mi) from the city's financial district and 13 km (8.1 mi) northeast of the Puerta del Sol, Madrid's historic centre. The airport name derives from the adjacent district of Barajas, which has its own metro station on the same rail line serving the airport. In Barajas District you will find the following neighborhoods: Simancas, Hellín, Amposta, Arcos, Rosas, Rejas, Canillejas and Salvador. Madrid - Barajas photo gallery © Flickr
