Tetuan district has taken its name from Tetuan in Morocco, in this district at the north of Madrid camped the colonizer Leopoldo O'Donnell returned with his forces to Spain after the Battle of Tetouan in Morrocco (1861). Tetuan district is characterized by very old houses, also as some of the most relevant skyscrapers of Madrid, such as the Picasso Tower, which makes Tetuan as an important business district. In Tetuan also the Madrid Central Mosque, the second biggest mosque in Madrid, considered a a center of Islamic culture and religion in Spain.
